Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA infection is caused by a type of staph bacteria that has become resistant to many of the antibiotics used to treat ordinary staph infections. Most MRSA infections occur in people who’ve been in hospitals or other health care settings, such as nursing homes and dialysis centers. According to the CDC, there were more than 80,000 invasive MRSA infections and 11,285 related deaths in 2011. Even the dead cells eventually decompose due to the photocatalytic process of titanium dioxide.
